What is PIP?

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a welfare benefit in the United Kingdom, paid to eligible adults aged 16 - 64 who have a long term health condition or disability.

Just like DLA ( Disability Living Allowance), PIP is non means tested, non contributory and tax free.

Those eligible to claim this benefit are able to claim whether they are in or out of work, meaning a person can still work and claim this benefit.

You can check if a person is eligible for this benefit by clicking here: https://www.gov.uk/pip/eligibility

Up until the age of 16, children who are eligible will still receive DLA, (but upon their 16th birthday they will be invited to apply for PIP) . Personal Independence Payments can be claimed by adults that are under the state pension age however if they are already on the benefit this will just continue after they retire.
