Universal Credit

Universal Credit, is a new benefit launched in 2013 to support you if you are in work and on a low income, or out of work. It replaces some of the benefits and tax credits which you may already be claiming now, such as :

  • Working tax credit

  • Child tax credit

  • Income support

  • Housing benefit

  • Income-based jobseeker’s allowance

  • Income-related employment and support allowance

The above benefits are called ‘legacy’ benefits and the Government expects all households claiming any of the above payments to have moved across to Universal Credit by 2023.
