Parents Have the power!

Have you ever felt that your voice is not being heard?

Parenting a child with disabilities can be very challenging, not only from the perspective of the additional daily care you provide to your child, but looking after yourself and the whole family too.

Then there are the many endless battles with systems that most often are not understanding of your child’s individual needs.

Unfortunately there is often a preconception that families with disabled children are automatically entitled to everything they need and financially supported by the government when in reality it is very hard to obtain what you need for your child and you are left feeling isolated trying to fight for your child’s rights alone, filling in endless forms and chasing up appointment's just to receive diagnosis and supportive evidence of their conditions.

Sadly many parents to disabled children lose family members support as often they lack the understanding or feel they can not help, when in reality most families with disabled children just need to know that people are there if they need them and are not expecting daily support, however for some parents daily support may indeed be needed.

Facing all this alone plus trying your best to care can take its toll. There is very little help out there when it comes to getting your point across, even supporting you to attend meetings with professionals and so with this in mind Zebras Charity have decided to form a parents SEN support group - which was piloted a few years ago.

If you feel you would like to part of this group and get together with other people who are in the same position as you and want to make changes or even just gain support please do email us at zebrascacharity@outlook.com - subject heading “Parents Power Meeting “.

The dates for meetings will then be shared. Please note this group is separate from the parents committee being formed for Zebras Children’s Club.

Together we are all stronger, please do not be afraid to come along, it might just be the support you have been seeking.
